Kinase: MST1 serine/threonine kinase 4

Group: STE      Family: STE20      Subfamily: MST

Description: serine/threonine kinase 4

Gene Symbol: STK4

Synonyms: DKFZp686A2068, KRS2, MST1, YSK3

UniprotKB/SwissProt: STK4_HUMAN (Q13043)

Function: Stress-activated, pro-apoptotic kinase which, following caspase-cleavage, enters the nucleus and induces chromatin condensation followed by internucleosomal DNA fragmentation. Phosphorylates 'Ser-14' of histone H2B during apoptosis. Phosphorylates FOXO3 upon oxidative stress, which results in its nuclear translocation and cell death initiation.

Subcellular Localization: Cytoplasm. Nucleus. Note=The caspase-cleaved form cycles between the nucleus and cytoplasm.
