[Back to Kinase LKB1]
Substrate: MARK2

Description: Serine/threonine-protein kinase MARK2 (EC (MAP/microtubuleaffinity-regulating kinase 2) (ELKL motif kinase) (EMK1) (PAR1homolog).

Synonyms: EMK1

Ensembl ID: ENSG00000072518

UniprotKB/SwissProt: MARK2_HUMAN (Q7KZI7)

Function: Role in epithelial morphogenesis. Modulates the developmental decision to build a columnar versus a hepatic epithelial cell apparently by promoting a switch from a direct to a transcytotic mode of apical protein delivery. Essential for the asymmetric development of membrane domains of polarized epithelial cells. One or more isoforms may play a role in graft rejection.

Other Modifications: View all modification sites in dbPTM

Protein Subcellular Localization: Cell membrane; Peripheral membrane protein. Note=Phosphorylated by PRKCZ in polarized epithelial cells, resulting in an interaction with YWHAZ which promotes relocation from the lateral to the apical membrane.
