[Back to Kinase CK2a1]
Substrate: RELA

Description: Transcription factor p65 (Nuclear factor NF-kappa-B p65 subunit).

Synonyms: NFKB3

Ensembl ID: ENSG00000173039

UniprotKB/SwissProt: TF65_HUMAN (Q04206)

Function: p65 is a subunit of the nuclear factor kappa-B, a second messenger, which activates the transcription of a number of genes in multiple tissues. The inhibitory effect of I-kappa-B upon NF- kappa-B in the cytoplasm is exerted primarily through the interaction with p65. p65 shows a weak DNA-binding site which could contribute directly to DNA binding in the NF-kappa-B complex.

Protein Subcellular Localization: Nucleus. Cytoplasm. Note=Nuclear, but also found in the cytoplasm in an inactive form complexed to an inhibitor (I-kappa-B).
